There are only a couple of meetings taking place on these shores today with the action coming from Hamilton on the flat and Plumpton over the sticks.  Meanwhile, over in Ireland, ther is a jumps card from Listowel.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although we will be back with a runner at Warwick on Monday when Lady Reset, who has already won three times on the flat this summer, reverts to hurdles.

We were saddened to learn earlier in the week that former Pond House conditional jockey, Danny Cook has been forced to retire from the saddle after sustaining an awful eye injury in a fall last October.  A very accomplished rider, we wish him every success with whatever he decides to do next.

There are three football matches taking place today with West Ham versus Manchester United looking a tasty prospect, whilst there is a local derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to look forward to.

I will be watching football of another genre however as my Minnesota Vikings travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals tonight.  Hopefully they will fare better than when snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last week against Cincinnati.  The good news from my point of view, is that despite losing, they are top of the division owing to every other team in the division also losing!

A poodle and a collie are walking together when the poodle suddenly unloads on his friend. “My life is a mess,” he says. “My owner is mean, my girlfriend ran away with a schnauzer, and I’m as jittery as a cat.”

“Why don’t you go see a psychiatrist?” suggests the collie.

“I can’t,” says the poodle. “I’m not allowed on the couch."
