Lady Unlucky

We were a little unlucky at Salisbury yesterday afternoon with Lady Reset finishing a close second in the 1m2f handicap despite being denied a clear run and the rider losing her reins in the closing stages.  Even so, she ran another great race to finish close up behind the progressive favourite - she is a tough and consistent mare and certainly deserves to get her head in front again.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Haydock, Ascot and Pontefract and all-weather flat fixtures from Newcastle and Kempton.  The best of the action today comes in the form of a couple of 0-105 handicaps at Ascot, although they are far from overly-subscribed once again.  It is the second day of Haydock's Sprint Cup meeting, although the action doesn't really step up a gear until tomorrow when the Group1 sprint is supported by a Listed contest and a Group 3.

England produced a great result to beat Hungary 4-0 away from home last night in their World Cup qualifier.  At 0-0 at half-time such a result didn't look likely, but England were much better in the second half.  Unfortunately, the match was marred by racial abuse from the home fans.

The fourth test match between England and India looks finely poised at the end of the first day.  England did well with the ball to reduce the visitors to 191 all out, with a good spell of bowling from the returning Chris Woakes, who took four wickets.  In reply England are 53-3 as play resumes this morning.  It is a good position to be in, although they can't afford to lose any early wickets.

British tennis player Emma Raducanu made it through to the third round of the US Open with a straight sets victory over Zhang Shuai - a player ranked 101 places higher than her.  It has certainly been a break-out season for the 18 year old following her run to the last 16 at Wimbledon.
