Weekend Jottings

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Yarmouth, Goodwood and Beverley.  The racing at Goodwood today caters for all ends of the spectrum with a 1m3f seller at 3.25pm and Group 3 contest over seven furlongs for the very next race.  I'm guessing that the ground is the main reason why there are small fields with only four lining up for the seller and six for the Group race.

Despite only a field of six, the 4.00pm at Goodwood looks like a wide open contest.  It could pay to side with Toro Strike, who is a course and distance winner.  He has been running on softer ground than this, but has won on good/firm and has the assistance of Ryan Moore in the saddle.

There are three Premiership football matches this afternoon with perhaps the most interesting, the London derby between Spurs and Watford.  With or without Harry Kane, you would expect Tottenham to emerge victorious from this one.

The Belgian Grand Prix takes place this afternoon after the three week summer break.  Spa is probably the best Formula 1 track on the calendar and the changeable conditions in the Ardennes can make it an unpredictable race.  Let's hope it's an entertaining race.  I will be reserving my place on the sofa...my wife will be thrilled!
