There are five meetings taking place this afternoon and we have a veritable feast of all-weather action to look forward to today.  The turf action comes from Catterick and Musselburgh, whilst the all-weather fixtures are from Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Kempton.  There is something of a dearth of quality action today with the best races today a pair of 0-85 handicaps.  Sadly, there is no jump racing from Fontwell today with the course still in an unfit state for racing - hopefully they will be back on the calendar sooner rather than later.  Unsurprisingly, there are no runners from the Pond House team today.

There was loads of Carabao Cup action last night with no big surprises.  Norwich and Aston Villa both put six goals up against their opposition, whilst Wolves and Swansea were also comfortable winners.  Everton and Leeds were among others to progress.

There are three more matches taking place tonight with Newcastle taking on Burnley, Newport versus Southampton and West Brom versus Arsenal.  It will be interesting to see how Arsenal get on tonight after two very lacklustre league appearances.

The third test match in the series between England and India gets underway at Headingley this morning with the hosts in desperate need of a good start as they fell 1-0 behind in the five match series.  They certainly shouldn't have lost the last match and should probably have won it.  The match starts at 11am.

The Formula One season resumes after their summer break this weekend at Spa in Belgium.  It is probably the finest track on the calendar and it will be fascinating to see battle resumed between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.  The Dutchman had looked to be on course for a first world championship as he led by 32 points three races ago but now he is facing an 8 point deficit having been taken out by Hamilton in Britain and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas in Hungary.  With the Japanese Grand Prix cancelled owing to escalating cases of Covid-19, no-one really knows how many races are left in the championship, adding to the uncertainty and intrigue of the title fight.

I accidentally swallowed some scrabble tiles and now I'm experiencing constant vowel movements.  The next trip to the bathroom could spell disaster!
