There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Worcester, flat fixtures from Carlisle, Bath and York and an all-weather meeting at Kempton.  There is a busy day ahead for the Pond House team with four runners at Worcester this evening; Mr Tambourine Man, Jewari Of Saints, Bluebell Polka and Veiled Secret (pictured above).  Mr Tambourine Man contests the 2m novices'  hurdle at 6.30pm.  He was an impressive winner of a maiden hurdle in Ireland earlier in the season and reverts to timber following a couple of runs on the flat.  He is the one to beat according to official figures, so let's hope that the handicapper is correct.

Jewari Of Saints represents the David Pipe Racing Club in the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 7.00pm.  A recent arrival from France, she was the facile winner of her last start over 2m1f at Dieppe on heavy ground in July.  An opening mark of 107 does not look unreasonable, although the ground is going to be very different tonight.  She looks to have a decent chance.

Bluebell Polka runs in the 2m4f mares' maiden hurdle at 7.30pm.  She made her debut for the stable at Bangor at the end of July and took a step forward on previous efforts when fifth.  She is entitled to improve for that first start over hurdles and looks to have a small each-way chance tonight.

Veiled Secret is our final runner in the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 8.00pm and he was a course winner on his debut for the yard over 2m4f two starts back.  He shaped for all the world like he would get further that day so it will be interesting to see how he gets on over this longer trip.  He is 3lbs higher than when last successful and has each-way claims on that basis.  Tom Scudamore rides all of our runners tonight.

It is the start of the Ebor meeting from York today and there is a cracking card in prospect with a Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 race on the menu.  The Juddmonte lost a lot of interest when St Mark's Basilica was ruled out earlier in the week, although there is still a quality line-up, whilst the Great Voltigeur is a renowned St Leger Trial.  Godolphin's Kemari was a good winner of the Queen's Vase at the Royal Ascot meeting and whilst he has to concede weight all round, he should go close under William Buick.

The Harry Kane to Manchester City debate rumbles on, although I see that some of the newspapers are adding a spicy twist.  They claim that should City fail to get their man, Christiano Ronaldo has been offered to the club instead.  That could certainly throw a spanner in the works.  Much as Kane is a great player, he is lacking the flair of a player like Ronaldo.  Meanwhile, Kane has returned to training with Spurs.  It looks like we are going to have to wait a little longer.

Mark Selby beat Shaun Murphy in a repeat of the world snooker final yesterday in their British Open match.  Stephen Hendry also progressed to the next round, although he is going to need to improve a lot to get much further.  This was his first main stage victory in his third tournament since returning from retirement.  A high break of just 47 leaves him plenty of room for improvement.
