   Happy Birthday Chester Barnes! (right)

Unfortunately there is no jumps racing in Britain today as both Wincanton and Catterick's meeting fell victim to the weather.  There was brief hope yesterday morning as Wincanton passed it's 8am check and went for another look at 4pm but by 2pm yesterday afternoon there was insufficient improvement at the Somerset track and the meeting was called off.  Catterick called their meeting off yesterday afternoon also and so it means we are left with just all-weather action to watch over here at Lingfield and Kempton but there is some jumping in Ireland at Thurles.  We were due to have two runners at Wincanton, Bumpy Johnson and Sexy Lot who were both declared but Bumpy Johnson has a few options later in the week and the plan is now to run Sexy Lot at Huntingdon on Friday.

The racing from Thurles today looks very good and features horses such as Allaho who is a Ryanair hope for Cheltenham in March and top mare Colreevy to name just two.  She lines up in the first race of the day, a mares novices chase at 12.15pm and she is a short priced favourite to win the opener for the Willie Mullins team and complete a hat-trick of wins this season.  Allaho runs in the second race of the day at 12.45pm, a high class 2m4f chase but he is again a short price to give Willie Mullins and Paul Townend a quickfire double on the card.  There are some trickier races to find winners in on the card with some competitive handicaps and maiden hurdles but you wouldn't probably go to far wrong if you were to bet on a Gordon Elliott double in the two bumpers that end the card.  He has a very good strike rate when teaming up with Jamie Codd so maybe they will win the 3.40pm with Gringo D'aubrelle and the 4.15pm with Calagogo.

Since Saturday the only jumping action we have had in this country was at Plumpton on Monday and that was lucky to even take place!  Looking ahead we now have warmer weather but also plenty of rain which adds new problems for the racecourses, let's just hope we can get a few meetings on as there is some fantastic entries coming up at the weekend.  The stable is likely to have runners at Huntingdon and Doncaster on Friday, Cheltenham and Doncaster on Saturday and at Fontwell and Uttoxeter on Sunday all being well so fingers crossed they are all.  There are lots of horses doubly and trebly entered with lots of trainers looking to get a run into their horses if possible so keep checking back here for more news of the stable runners.

Finally I would like to wish Chester Barnes a very Happy Birthday for today, 74 years young!  Chester used to write this daily blog much better than me and I know he is still following all the sports and spends quite a lot of time on the golf course down at Brixham when allowed!  Have a good day everyone.
