The stable were back among the winners yesterday afternoon as Paricolor (pictured above) ran out a comfortable winner of the selling hurdle at Leicester under a canny ride from conditional jockey Fergus Gillard.  Making most of the running, Fergus sensibly kept Paricolor out wide on the back straight to claim the better ground and seldom looked likely to be caught in the straight.  This was certainly an accomplished ride and the pair have now won three times together.

Following the abandonment of Lingfield to the elements there are only three meetings taking place this afternoon.  The action comes from Fakenham over the sticks and Southwell and Newcastle on the all-weather.  It is a pity for the stable that Lingfield was lost due to standing water on the track as Sexy Lot was forecast to start a very short price - she does get another chance, later in the week at Chepstow to compete without a penalty.  She is due to go up by 12lbs in future handicaps.  The stable has no runners this afternoon, although we will be back with three runners at Ffos Las tomorrow.

Well, I managed to get to bed shortly before I was due to get up this morning after watching the Minnesota Vikings beat the Bears in Chicago.  Given their record of just four wins at Soldier Field in the last twenty years, you could say that I was quite pleasantly surprised.  Although the Bears are pretty anaemic on offense, they do have one of the best defences in the game so to grind out victory there was very good.  Having lost five of their first six games, the Vikes have now won three in a row and suddenly have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs in January, something that looked impossible a few weeks ago.  Today has started well...I just hope I am able to make it to the end of the day without falling asleep at my desk (don't tell David)!

A chicken walked into a public library, marched up to the desk, and said, “Book, book, book, book.”

So the librarian handed the bird a book, the chicken accepted it, and then left.

Ten minutes later, the chicken returned, threw the book on the desk, and said, “Book, book, book, book.”

Once again the librarian handed the chicken another book, the chicken accepted it, and then left.

Ten minutes later, the chicken was back again. Once again it marched up to the librarian, threw the book on the desk, then said, “Book, book, book, book.”

The librarian handed the chicken a third book but this time she decided to follow the bird.

She watched the chicken hurry down the street and stop at a pond just off of the main street, where there was a frog sitting on a lily pad.

The chicken showed the book to the frog but the frog just shook its head and said, “Read it, read it, read it, read it.”
