There is an exciting afternoon ahead with today marking the first day of the Cheltenham November meeting.  It is a meeting that is always targeted by the Pond House team and David looks to have some chances over the course of the weekend.  Of course, there are other meetings taking place as well - the action comes from Cheltenham, Newcastle and Southwell over the jumps, whilst there is an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  David has three runners at Cheltenham this afternoon; Induno, Eamon An Cnoic and Panic Attack.

Induno contests the 2m5f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at 1.15pm.  He was a bumper and hurdle winner last season, beating some decent rivals before disappointing on his final start at Sedgefield.  A repeat of his earlier form would give him an excellent chance from an opening mark of 115, so we are hoping that is the Induno that shows up today.  Fergus Gillard is in the saddle and takes 6lbs off his back.

Eamon An Cnoic makes his seasonal reappearance in the 2m handicap chase at 1.50pm.  He does have some very good form at the track having finished placed in the Brown Advisory at the Festival, as well as runner-up over course and distance last season from this mark.  That form would give him an each-way chance once again and any rain would aid his chances.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Our final runner is Panic Attack who runs in the 2m handicap hurdle at 4.05pm.  Runner-up behind a promising rival over 2m3f, she comfortably went one better when returned to the minimum trip at Uttoxeter last time.  She makes her handicap debut today from a mark of 119 which does not look out of the way and whilst she is inexperienced for a race of this nature, she does jump well.  She looks to have a good chance under Tom Scu.

Tomorrow is promising to be a busy day with runners at three meetings, including six at Cheltenham...plenty to look forward to!

England were impressive in beating the Republic of Ireland 3-0 at Wembley last night in their International Friendly.  Meanwhile, the Scots have plenty to cheer about having qualified for the European Championships by beating Serbia last night on penalties.  This ends a drought of 23 years without competing in a major championship - well done to them!

England's Paul Casey is two shots clear at the head of the leaderboard after the first round of the Masters.  He shot a round of 65 (-7) to lead the field.  Tiger Woods looked in good nick as he tries to retain his title and is currently tied for fifth on -4.

I asked my wife last night if I was the only one she has ever been with.  She replied, "Yes, the others were all 7's or 8's at least!"
