Two Places

We were out of luck at Sedgefield yesterday afternoon with two third places from our three runners.  Malangen ran creditably in the 2m4f handicap hurdle and may well have finished second had he not made a mistake at the final flight.  He continues to run consistently and whilst he is only 1lb higher than his last winning mark, he just seems to be in the grip of the handicapper.  To Fly Free finished third on her handicap debut in the 2m hurdle and was only beaten three lengths.  She held every chance in the straight but could not quicken with the leaders and does not look to want much further than this trip.  Our other runner, Sans Logique was disappointing in the juvenile hurdle, finishing only fifth.  His jumping was not as it can be and he looked to be fighting a losing battle from a fair way out.  A winner on the flat in France, he is certainly better than he has shown so far over hurdles.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Nottingham and Kempton, whilst over the sticks there are jumps fixtures from Bangor and Huntingdon.  David doesn't have any runners today, although we have three declared at Ffos Las for tomorrow.

It was very sad to hear of the passing of French jockey Adam Kondrat yesterday at the age of just 53.  Kondrat, who rode for Francois Doumen until retiring from the saddle in 2010 was best know for his Gold Cup and King George successes aboard The Fellow in the 1990's.  He is survived by his wife Berenice and his three children.

Spurs knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup on penalties last night despite manager Jose Mourinho suggesting beforehand that the tournament was of little importance to him compared to the prize money on offer in the Europa League.  In a busy schedule Spurs will now host Maccabi Haifa in Europa action on Thursday before playing in the Premiership on Sunday.
