There was no luck for the yard over the weekend with Midnight Magic faring best of our two runners when finishing third at Newton Abbot in the staying handicap chase.  He wasn't beaten far and is consistent in his grade and should continue to be competitive in similar contests.  Stubborn Logic was unplaced at Plumpton yesterday afternoon on his first start for some time.  He travelled well for a long way before fading late on.  Whilst he likes top of the ground, the going was plenty lively enough at the Sussex track - officially good/firm.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Hamilton, Leicester and Wolverhampton, whilst there is a jumps fixture taking place at Warwick.  It is good to see that Warwick are to proceed with their pilot of spectators being allowed back on the track.  The course will play host to 474 guests and hope to increase that number at future fixtures if they can ably demonstrate that this number can be managed safely.  Let's wish them all the best.

David will be disappointed that Chelsea were beaten 2-0 at home by Liverpool yesterday.  Despite Frank Lampard's £200 million spending spree during the off-season, there is still a gulf in class between them and the title holders.  Liverpool will certainly continue to be difficult to beat on this evidence.

Things were no better for me yesterday with my beloved Minnesota Vikings on the end of a hammering from the Indianapolis Colts - a team that made Minshew Gardner look like a future hall of famer last week!  The offense was non-existent, whilst the defense had more holes in it than the colander in my kitchen!  Meanwhile, Stefon Diggs who we traded away during the off-season, continues to enjoy a stellar start to his career in Buffalo.  Week 2 and the season is already effectively over!  It was better news for Tom Brady, who secured his first success out of a Patriots uniform when leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory over the Carolina Panthers, whilst defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs beat the LA Chargers.

Bryson DeChambeau  bolted up in the US Open with a fantastic final round of 67 the only below par round of the entire field.  He finished on -6 for the championship, six shots ahead of runner-up Matthew Wolff.  Rory McIlroy finished joint eighth on +6.
