There are four meetings taking place on these shores this afternoon with the action all coming on the level at Doncaster, Chester, Sandown and Salisbury.  It is day three of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster and they have a cracking card with a Listed contest and a couple of Group 2 races.  The highlight of course is the Doncaster Cup at 3.15pm and it is an intriguing contest, even if it is lacking a real top-class stayer.  The most interesting one is Sir Mark Prescott's three year old gelding Revolver who is unbeaten in six starts this term, starting his winning spree from a mark of just 57!

It was good to see last year's St Leger hero Logician return victorious yesterday, even if he did have a relatively simple task on paper to beat his sole rival.  The trip of 1m2f would have been a bare minimum for this lovely grey and he looks like a serious contender for the Cup races next season.

We were saddened to hear that popular hurdler Mr Cool (pictured right) passed away on Monday at the age of 26.  Many of you will remember that Mr Cool was a very popular horse with Martin in the late 90's/early 2000's winning 14 times for him, including success in the Grade 2 Championship bumper at Chepstow in 1999 and Ascot Hurdle in 2003 (he was also runner-up in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle and Cleeve Hurdle and ran a host of other great races).

He spent the last 15 years in retirement with his owners, Nick and Sue Mills and enjoyed the odd cross country ride.  He had plenty of company and more recently was uncle to a number of young stock, whilst he also had two donkey companions.

Sue Mills said of Mr Cool, "He was fortunate to be at Pond House and trained by Martin as his potential was fully maximised and we had great fun."

Superbowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs began the defence of their title in the best possible style with a 34-20 success over the Houston Texans.  The favourites rarely looked in much trouble but will face much harder tests than the Texans.  Expectations for them are low despite the services of the excellent Deshaun Watson at quarterback following a number of head-scratching moves during the off-season.
