There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action coming from Doncaster, Chepstow, Haydock and Chelmsford City on the all-weather.  Today is day two of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster and it features the return of last year's brilliant Leger winner Logician (albeit in a two runner race) as well as a couple of Group 2 contests for fillies.  Unfortunately it will be held behind closed doors following the latest revision to the guidelines of spectators attending sport.  3,600 people attended the track at Doncaster yesterday - it seemed to have been well received so let's hope that there are no negative repercussions from the event and racegoers can attend again sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately you are out of luck if you are a fan of the jumps as there is no National Hunt action in this country today, tomorrow, Sunday or Monday with just a single meeting at Fontwell on Saturday to look forward to.  Unsurprisingly, there are no runners from the Pond House team today.

Pictured above is a very promising youngster on the gallops.  Martinhal was the winner of his only start under rules when the ready victor of a Huntingdon bumper last season and he looks an exciting recruit for hurdles this term.  He was pictured during exercise working nicely under David Noonan.

It's a big sporting day as far as I'm concerned, although I am sure I am in the minority!  Today marks the start of the NFL American Football season so I will be glued to that until the early hours, although my beloved Minnesota Vikings don't get underway until Saturday night when they take on arch rivals, the Green Bay Packers.  Tonight defending Superbowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs get things underway against the Houston Texans.  The Chiefs should be too good but it is difficult to know what to expect with the absence of a proper 'off-season' to prepare and any pre-season matches to blow the cobwebs away.

Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel looks sure to be announced as an Aston Martin driver for next season in one of the sport's worst-kept secrets.  Vettel will be replacing Sergio Perez who confirmed the news of his departure at the end of the season yesterday.  Given the current performance of Ferrari, I would suggest the German can't wait to get this season finished with and the new one underway.
