There are four meetings taking place on these shores this afternoon with the action coming from York, Sandown and Chelmsford City on the flat, whilst there is a jumps card from Uttoxeter.  Chepstow were forced to abandon their fixture earlier in the week due to torrential rain leaving the track waterlogged.  David has one runner this afternoon with Dell' Arca contesting the 3m2f handicap chase at Uttoxeter at 4.25pm.  Our eleven year old has been a real star down the years contesting quality races throughout his career.  He is on his lowest mark to date and with conditions to suit, he looks sure to go well under Tom Scudamore.

There is some excellent racing to look forward to at York this afternoon with a Group 2, Group 3 and Listed contest on their card, although the biggest race of the day is the Ebor, a 1m6f handicap which is traditionally the richest handicap in Europe.  Such is the competitiveness of the race, you needed to be rated 97 just to get a run this year!

Sexy Lot finished runner-up at Newton Abbot last night in the novices' hurdle.  This was only her second start over hurdles and her first since January so she will certainly improve for the experience and should be winning races over timber.

Battaash added another Nunthorpe to his already impressive CV yesterday afternoon but he was made to work for it.  Que Amoro looked to have him trouble for a large chunk of the 5f trip, but the reigning champion's class shone through in the end as he gradually wore down his rival to record a length victory.  This was his fourth Group One success for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum - it is a shame that he was gelded after his two year old career!

England's cricketers had a good day on day one of the last test match against Pakistan, finishing up on 332-4.  The hosts looked to be in a spot of bother as they dropped to 127-4 but an excellent innings of 171 not out from Zak Crawley, ably supported by Jos Buttler put England firmly on top, the pair putting on an unbeaten stand of 205 runs.  If England can post a decent score today, the series looks won for all money.

Sometimes I wonder what my grandfather would think of what I do. He spent his whole life in the kebab business and was buried with all his equipment.  He is probably turning in his grave!
