There are just three meetings taking place this afternoon and it is another blank day for fans of the jumps.  The action comes from Bath, Hamilton and Salisbury with the feature race of the day a Listed 1m2f fillies stakes from Salisbury.  Meanwhile, over in Ireland there is a decent card on offer from Leopardstown where there are interesting Listed and Group 3 contests.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today.

I see that the French racing authorities are hoping to negotiate with the government to increase the maximum number of people allowed to attend their Arc meeting.  At present a cap on 5,000 people is set to extend until October, although France Galop are hoping to have nearer 20,000 on the track.  They say that 5,000 people will be racing professionals and members of the media only and that number will not allow members of the general public.  I am sure they know what they are talking about, but 5,000 directly to do with the running and reporting of the media sounds optimistic to me!

The highly anticipated match between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Selby looks finely balanced with 'The Rocket' ahead 5-3.  The first session was disappointing in terms of quality with plenty of mistakes, but many of those have been attributed to atmospherics and the humidity.  I will have to remember that one next time I make a mistake in the office!  Their match resumes this afternoon at 2.30pm.

Did you hear about the man who was squashed by a falling piano last week?  Apparently the funeral will be low-key!
