There are a couple of abandonments to deal with today - Yarmouth, again sadly owing to the unsafe nature of the track and Hamilton, who can you believe it, had to abandon after heavy rain turned the course unraceable.  Nonetheless there are three meetings that will take place with flat cards from Sandown and Wolverhampton and a jumps fixture from Cartmel.  David has two runners at Cartmel; new recruit To Fly Free (pictured above) and Huccaby.

To Fly Free makes her debut for the stable when she contests the juvenile hurdle at 12.15pm.  She seems to have taken well to jumping at home, schooling nicely so we are hopeful of a big run for the David Pipe Racing Club.  There has been plenty of rain at the northern track though, with the ground soft in places.  A winner on good ground on the flat in France, she may not want underfoot conditions too testing.  Stable jockey Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Our other runner is Huccaby who runs in the 3m1½f handicap hurdle at 1.25pm.  He has shown signs of ability in his races but would need to improve on what he has done thus far.  He certainly wouldn't mind any more rain that falls but faces an uphill task from 11lbs out of the weights.  David Noonan is in the saddle.

England's cricketers look to be up against it after the second day of the first test match as they were reduced to 92-4, chasing Pakistan's first inning total of 326.  Almost half of the visitors runs were attributed to a marvelous innings from opener Shan Masood who was eventually dismissed for 156.  With England set to bat last on a tricky wicket they look to face an uphill task.

Four times former champion John Higgings was sensationally dumped out of the world snooker championships in Sheffield yesterday as he lost to Norweigian qualifier Kurt Maflin 13-11.  Higgins actually made a maximum 147 break during the match and led 11-10 before his opponent took the final three frames.  Another former champion, Mark Selby is also involved in a tight battle as he resumes today at 8-8 in his match against Noppon Saengkham.

I was playing chess with a mate of mine the other day when he said, "Let's make this more interesting".  So we stopped playing chess!
