The stable was a little unlucky yesterday afternoon with Mrs Miggins falling on her chase debut when still in with every chance at the penultimate fence.  She had jumped well until that point and was finding plenty when coming to grief.  Up until that point you could only be pleased with the performance under top weight of 12-7 and she showed more than enough to suggest that she will be winning something similar before long.  Percy Street also produced his best effort in a while when runner-up in the 2m5½f handicap hurdle, travelling sweetly until the closing stages.  A slow jump at the last put paid to his chances but this was a lot more like it and he can go one better, especially whilst the ground is on the quick side.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Bath and Ripon, whilst there is a jumps fixture from Stratford.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today, although we will be back tomorrow with a couple of runners at Cartmel.

Pontefract should be applauded for their action ahead of next week's fixture as they plan to bring back prize money to pre-Covid levels early.  They understand that everyone is feeling the pinch and owners are not immune to this so well done to them - let's hope they are rewarded with a competitive card.  The remainder of tracks are set to return prize money to normal levels from September which is obviously good news.

Manchester United completed a routine 2-1 success over LASK in their Europa League match, going through 7-1 on aggregate.  United will now face FC Copenhagen in the quarter-finals and will be keen to advance with a place in next season's Champions League already secured.

There were more shocks at the Crucible yesterday with Martin Gould completing a facile 10-3 victory over former world number two Stephen Maguire.  John Higgins resumes this morning 3-5 down against Norweigan Kurt Maflin who has looked to be in good form this week, whilst also achieving notoriety for giving the white ball 'the finger' during his first round success.

I have written a letter to the Royal Mail about my post being continually late.  To make sure they see it, I have put it inside a birthday card!
