The stable enjoyed a nice winner at Southwell last night when Malangen landed the 2m4½f claiming hurdle in good style.  Bought out of a seller on the flat as a three year old, he has proven to be a good purchase, now winning five times for us over hurdles and fences.  Four claims went in for him, but it was good to see him return to the stable and this success could be the ideal confidence booster for him.  He certainly travelled nicely and looks capable of winning again.  Our other runner, Collingwood Court took a step in the right direction in the maiden hurdle and looks as though he would benefit from a stiffer test of stamina.  It was a good night too for stable jockey Tom Scudamore, for whom Malangen was the middle leg of a treble.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Ayr and Lingfield on the flat and a jumps fixture from Newton Abbot.  David has four runners at Newton Abbot; Highlander Madrik, Mrs Miggins, Teaser and Percy Street.  Highlander Madrik, a winner on the flat in France makes his debut for the stable in the juvenile hurdle at 1.45pm.  He has schooled well at home and gets a handy weight allowance from likely favourite Hiconic.  He was rated higher than that rival on the level and should go well under Tom Scudamore.

Mrs Miggins makes her chasing debut in the 2m5f novices' handicap chase at 2.20pm.  A winner last term over hurdles at Uttoxeter, the trip and ground look ideal for her and she should looks to have decent prospects in a competitive little race despite the burden of 12-7.

Teaser and Percy Street both contest the 2m5½f handicap hurdle at 2.50pm.  They both need to improve on most recent outings to feature, but will love the ground and have nice racing weights.  David Noonan is aboard Teaser and Tom Scu rides Percy Street.

There were a few shocks on day five of the world snooker championship yesterday with former champion Shaun Murphy and world number four Mark Allen both losing.  Meanwhile, former world number two Stephen Maguire is in big trouble as he faces a 7-2 deficit against Martin Gould in their best of 19 frame match.
