     Leoncavallo Runs Today at Sandown
(Picture courtesy of the Racing Post)

Leoncavallo is having is first start on the flat for 1349 days today in the 4.20pm 1m6f handicap at Sandown with Jason Watson in the saddle.  He is also having his first start for the yard, running in the colours of the Value Racing Club.  He has won two flat races in his career, the last in July 2016 but he has been high class over hurdles in the meantime and has some great form.  He is a six time hurdle winner rated 143 and was second in the Scottish Champion hurdle trial at Ayr back in November on his penultimate start.

He has some bigger targets back over jumps later in the summer but it will be good to get him out on the track, blow away any cobwebs and see what he can do off a mark of 73.  It looks a competitive little race but he is going nicely at home and so fingers crossed he can run well.

There is lots of good flat racing action to watch on the TV this afternoon with ITV4 broadcasting from Newbury and Sandown plus there is also racing at Doncaster and Leicester as well.  Over in Ireland there is racing at the Curragh with the feature race, the 1,000 Guineas at 7.15pm plus a star studded card alongside it as well.  Racing kicks off at 12 noon at Doncaster and there is non-stop action all the way through until the final race of the day, the 9.00pm at Leicester – hours of entertainment!  Siskin was very impressive in the irish 2,000 Guineas last night.

There is plenty of action tomorrow as well with meetings at Doncaster, Goodwood and Newmarket and racing in Ireland at Leopardstown.

Our next stable runner after today will be Airton at Chepstow on Monday evening.  He runs in the two mile handicap with Finley Marsh on board.  He has enjoyed a little break with no racing and is going well at home.  He runs in the black and white colours of the David Pipe Racing Club and so there will be plenty of people cheering him on from their sofas!  He had one run on the flat for the yard last summer at Salisbury and he was a staying on fifth over 1m6f.  The two miles will suit him at Chepstow and as long as they don’t get too much rain we are hopeful he should run well.  He is already a four time flat winner and the last of these was over two miles at Catterick off a mark of 76.  He races off 70 on Monday so fingers crossed!

On Tuesday we plan to run Yaa Salaam in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot with Tom Marquand on board.  He is a five time winner on the flat in Germany and has a rating of 94.  While he has never run over this far on the level he perhaps does not have the speed he once did and David does not see why he should not run okay.  It is a very tough race but it will be interesting to see how he gets on.  He was last seen on the racecourse finishing second over hurdles at Taunton.  Hopefully the red and white colours on the Two Hopes will get a good run for their money.  Dell’arca also holds an entry in the race and will run if he makes the cut.  Although this is probably unlikely we will find out a bit later today.  If he does not get a run on Tuesday he is likely to have an entry a bit later in the week at the Royal Meeting in the Queen Alexandria stakes.  While he does probably have it all to do on ratings in whatever race he runs in, he is quite well handicapped on the flat compared to his hurdles rating.  While not all form translates, he loves Ascot and loves this time of year so you never know!

It is great back at the yard as several horses are now back from their holidays and some more of the staff are  now back to work as well.  The usual hustle and bustle of a yard is starting to return which is lovely to see after such a difficult few months for everyone.  Stay safe and healthy and enjoy all the action from the comfort of your sofas everyone.  Be lucky!
