There was a good winner for the stable yesterday when Main Fact ran out a cosy winner of the 2m handicap hurdle at Warwick yesterday.  He travelled nicely throughout and stayed on nicely after the last when Tom Scudamore asked him to quicken and he readily drew clear.  The form of his previous start at Exeter has worked out particularly well with the first three home all winning subsequently.  Such was the manner of victory, it would be no surprise to see him turned out again quickly under a penalty.  It was great to get a winner on the board for owners the Munrowd's partnership who have been very patient.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Fakenham and Wetherby as well as two all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Newcastle.  We were due to have one runner today at Wetherby but Eden du Houx does not run in the NH novices' hurdle which is a shame as he looked to have a strong chance.  Hopefully it is nothing much and he will be running again shortly.

The best race of the day comes across the Irish Sea as there is a fascinating Grade 2 hurdle which features a clash between superstar mares Benie des Dieux and Apples Jade as well as former Stayers' Hurdle winner Penhill.  Benie des Dieux has had a little break since winning the French Champion Hurdle last May, but even though she has a couple of verdicts over Apples Jade it should be a close race between these old rivals.

Trade was brisk at the Doncaster Sales yesterday with the top lot once again being knocked down to Henrietta Knight for a mystery owner.  Knight went to £370,000 to secure bumper winner Keskonrisk having purchased the top lot at the previous Cheltenham sales for £450,000 but would not be drawn on who the order was for leading to plenty of speculation.  If they are looking for a trainer, I am sure that David would be happy to oblige!!!

There were some ugly scenes at Old Trafford as they were booed off the field following a 2-0 home defeat by Burnley.  The current United squad have been dubbed an 'embarrassment' and 'the worst squad in 30 years'.  After the departure of Mourinho as manager last season, they did rally under caretaker manager Solskjaer but it has been a different story since he was named full-time boss.  In fact, United have lost more games than they have won since then and look to have a mountain to climb to get competitive with the top clubs once again.

The Australian Open tennis is currently taking place in Melbourne and there were easy second round wins for Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.  Federer has had very little playing time prior to the tournament but has looked pretty good through his first two matches.
