Weekend Jottings

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Ayr and an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  I guess if you are a fan of the jumps, you are out of luck if you live in the south.  Even so, we still have a runner today as Ghost Serge contests the 1m4f handicap at Wolverhampton at 4.10pm.  He has plenty of talent but has his quirks too.  He wasn't disgraced when returned to the level last time and this is a slightly easier grade.  He has top weight to contend with but jockey Finley Marsh takes 3lbs off his back.  Could well outrun his odds.

The place to go if you want some quality jumping today is Thurles in Ireland where they have a couple of Grade 2 races on the card.  Ironically, they have drawn the smallest fields.

There is a good football match to look forward to this afternoon as Liverpool take on Manchester United at 4.30pm this afternoon.  Liverpool have been in irresistible form this season and United will need to improve significantly if they are to get a result at Anfield.  The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Personally, I will be more interested in the final of the Masters snooker that takes place at the Ally Pally.  My wife will be thrilled, no doubt!
