It has been another miserable start to the day and Plumpton have taken the decision to abandon their fixture today which is a shame as we were due to have runners at the Sussex track.  That leaves us with a jumps card from Newbury and two all-weather flat cards from Southwell and Wolverhampton, although things could get worse yet as Newbury are inspecting this morning as well!

There are no such problems over in Ireland where they have a meeting from Punchestown.  They are due a mainly sunny day and whilst the ground will be testing there are no shortage of runners with the smallest fields drawing ten participants.

I see that Nick Rust, the chief executive for the BHA has decided to step down at the end of this year.  Rust has held the position since 2015 and was integral in the reform of the Levy system from which racing generates it's contribution from bookmakers.  The hunt for his successor will begin over the next few weeks so at least they will have plenty of time to select the right candidate.

There was third round FA Cup replay action last night and Tottenham Hotspur just about squeezed through 2-1 against resilient Championship side Middlesbrough.  There are more replays tonight with Carlisle hosting Cardiff and Manchester United taking on Wolves again.  Whilst United should be good enough, I don't think they will be having things all their own way in this one.

The surprises continue at the Ally Pally with world number one Judd Trump losing in his opening match of the Masters yesterday.  That means that the top five seeds are already out of the tournament...quite amazing really.  John Higgins was an easy winner yesterday and looks well positioned to pick up the pieces.  I bet Ronnie O'Sullivan is wishing he had entered now!

Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested after falling into a combine harvester, having tried to steal it.  He will be bailed later!
