There are hopefully two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action coming from Carlisle and Southwell.  Having said that, Southwell will need to pass an early morning inspection for their meeting to go ahead.  They were due some heavy showers last night, but with a brighter day forecast, let's hope that it goes ahead.  The ground is unsurprisingly described as heavy, so make sure that if you are thinking of having a wager, your selection will like the mud!

There are no runners from the stable today and stable jockey's Tom Scudamore and David Noonan also have the day off.  The next runner from the Pond House team will come tomorrow on the all-weather at Wolverhampton - a rare foray onto the flat at this time of year.

There is a good card from Navan taking place this afternoon with loads of runners on the card, although ironically the most interesting race has the smallest field.  That is the Grade 2 novices' hurdle which features some very promising youngsters including the unbeaten Andy Dufresne.

There is some interesting Premier League football action to look forward to this afternoon with Manchester United hosting Everton and Wolves against Tottenham Hotspur at 2pm.  But, perhaps the best match of the day is the 4 o'clock kick-off between Arsenal and Manchester City.

I see that England Test Cricket captain Joe Root has been left out of the squad for the T20 series against South Africa which gets underway in February.  Apparently Root still figures in the selectors plans, although it gives them a chance to look at other players.  England or South Africa in February?  Doesn't sound like much competition to me...Root cannot be happy!

How much did Father Christmas pay for his sleigh?  Nothing, it was 'on the house'!  Have a great weekend...
