There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Kelso and Huntingdon.  With the racing sparse in this area today, there are unsurprisingly no runners from the Pond House team. There is some very good prize money on offer at Kelso today with the Borders National the big race of the day.  It is a competitive affair, as you would expect with £38,000 to the winner, whilst there is also a valuable veteran's race on the card.  The veteran's races are always popular with racegoers and it provides a great opportunity for these wonderful oldies to compete for a good pot without fear of an unexposed youngster in the line-up.

Over in Ireland there is an excellent card from Punchestown which features the Grade One John Durcan Chase at 1.50pm.  It marks the seasonal reappearances of Min, Presenting Percy and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Anibale Fly and will certainly provide a few pointers for big races later in the season.

As I have already mentioned, racing is a bit thin on the ground today, so if you need to get your fix, you will have to travel to Wadebridge in Cornwall for some point-to-point action.  I am sure a few of the Pond House team will be there, including up and coming amateur jockey Fergus Gillard who has a few rides on the card.

There is plenty of sporting interest this afternoon with four Premiership football matches, whilst the final of the UK snooker championships is also taking place in York's Barbican Theatre.  Personally, I will be rooted to the television for the American Football tonight and my beloved Minnesota Vikings who host the Detroit Lions!
