There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Market Rasen and Wincanton and two all-weather flat fixtures from Newcastle and Chelmsford.  David has two runners at Wincanton today; Into The Woods and Queen Adelaide.  Into The Woods runs in the novices' hurdle at 2.50pm and he is likely to be a big price.  He had some reasonable placed form in Irish point-to-points but disappointed on his rules debut in a decent Chepstow bumper.  He is certainly better than that effort and this longer trip and obstacles could bring about some improvement under Tom Scudmore.  Our other runner is Queen Adelaide (pictured above) who runs in the hands and heels handicap hurdle at 3.50pm.  It is a race for conditional and amateur jockey so she is ridden by Fergus Gillard who claims 3lbs off her back.  She ran well on her return from a 239 day absence to finish fourth at Exeter last time and she is 1lb lower today with this slightly shorter trip looking likely to suit.  Looks to have sound claims.

The stable tours in the Racing Post continue and it is David's turn tomorrow.  Ben Newton was down earlier in the week to get all the latest from the Pond House team ahead of the feature.  It should make for an interesting read so make sure you get your copy!

I see that it is former Gold Cup winning trainer Robert Alner's birthday today.  You may recall that Robert trained Cool Dawn to victory at Cheltenham in 1998 under Andrew Thornton.  He celebrates his 76th birthday today.  Many happy returns Robert!

England made a promising start on the first day of their test match against New Zealand, ending the day's play on 241-4.  Given the last time they met, England were skittled out for just 58 runs, this is certainly a big step in the right direction.  They need to consolidate on day two and they will fancy their chances.

Great Britain won their opening group tie at the Davis Cup tennis finals by beating the Netherlands 2-1.  The match was decided in Britain's favour when Jamie Murray and Neil Skupski won their doubles match.  Andy Murray had earlier scraped through his singles match against world number 179 Tallon Griekspoor.  The result puts Great Britain in a good position, but they are going to need to improve and Andy Murray is still a shadow of his former self.

I used to make £50 per hour by clearing up leaves from people's gardens.  I was raking it in!
