Rathlin Rose runs at his favourite Sandown

There are two jumps meetings today at Ffos Las and Sandown and there is also jumps racing in Ireland at Navan.  David has three runners, Champers on Ice and Delface at Ffos Las and Rathlin Rose at Sandown.  Champers on Ice runs in the 3.05pm handicap hurdle over three miles with Tom Scu on board.  He will love all the rain that falls at the track and is in good form at home.  He only had two runs last season and returned from injury to finish a good fourth at Haydock and while he pulled up at the Cheltenham Festival the ground was not soft enough.  He is nine years old but does not have many miles on the clock and certainly retains his ability that saw him finish third in the Albert Bartlett a few years ago.  It is a good starting point for him this season and we are hopeful of a good run.

Delface runs in the 4.10pm handicap hurdle and is ridden by Ben Godfey as it is a special conditional and amateur race.  Ben is based with Anthony Honeyball but comes and rides out here regularly and schooled Delface earlier in the week.  The horse loves the track and he also loves the soft conditions.  He carries top weight but Ben takes a handy three pounds off and he returns from a little break and is going well at home.

Rathlin Rose runs in the veterans chase at Sandown.  His last run was in the Czech Republic last month where he ran a cracker to finish 6th over the mighty fences.  The four mile distance just stretched him that day and he goes back to one of his favourite courses, his beloved Sandown where he has won three times.  He came back from his foreign venture in good form and he should not be too far away with David Noonan on board.

There are some top horses in action at Navan this afternoon.  Apple’s Jade returns in the Grade 2 Lismullen hurdle ridden by Robbie Power while also in action we have Cheltenham Festival winners Duc Des Genievres and A Plus Tard and top class horses Melon and Fakir D’Oudairies.

The big game in the football today is a top of the table clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at 4.30pm.  It should be a good game but my money will be on the home team Liverpool.  We are then having a break from league football as we have the International break.

I’ve just written a song about tortillas; actually it’s more of a wrap!  Have a nice day.
