There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Lingfield, Kempton and Chelmsford City whilst there is a jumps card from Stratford.  Following heavy rain Newton Abbot sadly had to make the decision to abandon their final National Hunt fixture of the season earlier in the week.  It is not really a big surprise, I live just down the road from the course and they have shut off Torquay seafront due to flooding.  It's a shame, but let's hope they have better luck next season.

Dusky Hercules ran a decent race at Taunton yesterday afternoon to finish third in the maiden hurdle.  It looks like the wind operation has worked and it will be interesting to see how he gets on once he goes handicapping.  Malangen finished fourth in the novices' handicap chase but didn't run to his very best.  Poor David Noonan took a horrible unseat from Nigel Hawke's Mead Vale in the same race - it looked nasty and he did not move for some considerable time but he did eventually get up and the good news is that he seems to be okay.  I reckon he is going to be pretty stiff and sore this morning.

I see that John Gosden enjoyed his 3,000th career winner yesterday (all on the flat).  What an awesome achievement, although he still has a little way to go before he reaches Martin's tally of 4183.

Betfred are betting on the General Election and make Boris Johnson their 1/4 favourite.  Jeremy Corbyn is 7/2 and no overall majority is 10/11.  They really do seem to bet on any old rubbish these days!

England take on New Zealand in the first T20 cricket international tonight at 1am.  I reckon the Kiwi's will have a score to settle with England, but I will be backing our lads at 11/10...come on England!

What a football match between Liverpool and Arsenal last night - it ended 5-5, yes that is the right score.  Liverpool finally won 5-4 on penalties.  Meanwhile, Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 with Marcus Rashford scoring a sensational free kick from 30 yards out.  He also scored their other goal from the penalty spot so he has plenty of reason to celebrate today on his 22nd birthday.  I won't be celebrating as I couldn't really have been much further out with my football bets!

Derby captain Richard Keogh has been sacked by his club after his drink driving car crash left him with a serious knee injury.  His £24,000 per week contract has been terminated and he faces a year on the sidelines.  A stupid thing to do and it has proved to be an expensive night of drinking.

It's Halloween again, so time to dust off the Gloria Gaynor joke for another year.

Gloria Gaynor came to my house trick or treating.  At first I was afraid, I was petrified!  Keep smiling...
