There are four meetings taking place this afternoon after Leicester had to abandon their card following an early morning inspection.  That leaves us with flat cards from Musselburgh and Kempton, whilst there are jump fixtures at Hereford and Huntingdon.  It is a quiet day for the stable with no runners from the Pond House team this afternoon.  I see that the official going at Hereford is being given as good (good/firm in places) but I find that very hard to believe.  Racing has already been abandoned at Haydock for Friday and they say that Redcar is waterlogged in places.  At least, for the first time in ages it isn't raining in the west country at present.

It was a long wait for jockey Derek McCormack who partnered his first winner since 2015 when he won on Scorpion Black at Gowran Park for Dermot Weld.  That would have taken a bit of the sting out of the story.

I see that it is Reg Lomas MBE's birthday today.  Reg is 88.  He used to be the head groundsman at Cheltenham racecourse and Peter Scudamore would always ask Reg where the better ground was.  Scu certainly used to do his homework!  Anyway, many happy returns Reg...

Former England goalkeeper David James has teamed up with Gamble Aware as an Ambassador.  James says "Supporting safer gambling within football is something that is important to me.  I want to encourage football fans to think twice about how they are betting."  I would think some of the players should also think twice about how they are betting.  James was very good on Strictly Come Dancing.

England beat Bulgaria 6-0 in the football but there is more publicity about the monkey chants and Nazi salutes.  Bulgaria should be banned from these competitions or at least make them play their competitions away from home.  Why don't the Bulgarian police get involved?  There are loads of pictures of these idiots in the papers...they should just arrest them!

Ronnie O'Sullivan has had another go at the Crawley K2 Leisure Centre.  "Every day in Crawley is a day lost in my life.  The place hasn't changed much, they may have put out a few more air fresheners in anticipation of me."  Ronnie certainly knows how to keep on the right side of people!
