What a great day at Chepstow yesterday afternoon as Vieux Lion Rouge landed the Caroline Tisdall sponsored veteran's handicap chase.  How do you present the trophy to yourself?!  It was an exciting race to watch and our ten year old was given a fine ride by Conor O'Farrell who produced him on the run-in with a telling late burst to collect the valuable prize.  It was just like old times with the Irishman back in the saddle.  Caroline's other runner, Dell' Arca also ran with credit in fifth place and picked up a bit of prize money too.  Meanwhile, Queens Cave also posted a very promising effort on her first start back from an absence.  She finished runner-up to Silver Forever in the mares' novices' hurdle and this looked to be a good race on paper.  The first two home both look worth following and will be winning nice races.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newmarket, York and Wolverhampton as well as jumps fixtures from Chepstow and Hexham.  David runs Remastered and Make Me A Believer at Chepstow.  Remastered contests the very competitive Silver Trophy handicap hurdle over 2m3½f at 4.30pm.  Both of his wins have come on heavy ground, including at this track.  He will love the underfoot conditions and looks to hold very good each-way claims under David Noonan.

Make Me A Believer makes his debut for the stable in the bumper at 5.40pm.  He was still going well when hitting the deck in the closing stages of an Irish point-to-point so there is clearly ability there.  This does look like a hot contest but our charge is a nice prospect and has each way claims at a decent price.  David Noonan rides.

I did my money last night on England against the Czech Republic as we lost 2-1.  They were useless as they fell to their first qualifying defeat in ten years.  Some of our players don't look up to international standard with Mason mount and Jadon Sancho in particular looking out of their depth.  Someone should be coaching them on how to mark players when corners are being taken...not that I am talking through my pocket!  I will try to get some of it back today by backing Swindon at 5/4 and Mansfield at 20/21.

I see British lady tennis player Heather Watson has reached her first WTA tour semi-final for 13 months.  She had to save four match points to beat Pole Magda Linette.  She now plays Russian Veronika Kudermetova this morning.  That's a mouthful!

Thought for the day.  Discretion is the ability to raise your eyebrow instead of your voice!  Have a great weekend...
