There was a good winner for the stable at Wincanton yesterday with Midnight Magic winning the staying handicap chase.  He jumped really well and saw out his race nicely to score with a bit in hand.  This was our seven year old's first success after some near misses and it was a fantastic result for his owner/breeders Midd Shire Racing who have been very patient with him.  Hopefully with this win under his belt he can go on to further success.  Percy Street also performed creditably on the same card to finish a close third in the 2m4f handicap hurdle and should be winning further races judged on this effort.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Exeter and Worcester as well as two all-weather flat fixtures from Kempton and Southwell.  David has three runners at Exeter today; Airton, Teaser and Hot Ryan.

Airton contests the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at 2.20pm.  His recent form isn't inspiring but he was still travelling nicely when falling at Ffos Las on his penultimate start, he has dropped a bit in the weights and this represents a drop in class.  Shane Quinlan has schooled him at home and takes 3lbs off his back.  He is a big price but could surprise a few people.

Teaser runs in the 2m3f handicap chase at 3.30pm.  Our four year old has been in tremendous form this season and ran a good race last time at Market Rasen over two furlongs further.  He may have found that trip stretching him a bit, so this intermediate distance looks ideal.  David Noonan takes the ride and whilst it is a competitive race, he looks to have a decent chance.

Our final runner of the day is Hot Ryan who runs in the 2m5½f novices' handicap hurdle at 4.00pm.  Our mare won twice at Worcester before finishing a close third at Newton Abbot last time.  She is partnered today by Bryan Carver who takes a handy 7lbs off her back and she should be bang there again.

I see that Petr Cech, the former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper has signed to play professional ice hockey for Guildford Phoenix.  He will play on Sunday against the Swindon Wildcats.  A very different sport to say the least...I can't remember the last time I heard about that sort of crossover.

Talking of football, Wales play Slovakia tonight in the European Championships and you can back the Welsh at 11/5.  Slovakia have been concluding a lot of goals of late.
