Both runners at Sedgefield ran very well yesterday with Stream Lady winning the novices' handicap chase, whilst Ourmullion was a close third in the handicap hurdle.  I thought that Strem Lady jumped particularly well on only her second start over fences to score a shade cosily.  She was 3lbs ahead of the handicapper here and will pick up a penalty for this success so I would not be at all surprised to see her turned out again shortly.  This was an excellent result for the stable, not least because she is owned by Geoff Thompson who sponsors the stable through W&S Recycling.  Meanwhile, Ourmullion continues to run well and this was the seventh consecutive time he has reached the frame.  The burden of 12-4 was just beyond him and he remains a few pounds too high following his success at Newton Abbot earlier in the season.  The trouble is that he will get little respite from the handicapper whilst he continues to run creditably.

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Thirsk, Sandown, Hamilton, Newcastle and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps card from Bangor-On-Dee.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up a spare ride at Bangor and it looks to be a good thing...no pressure!

There is some Championship football to look forward to tonight with Cardiff versus Fulham at 7.45pm.  I will be having a little wager on Fulham at 8/5 to give me an interest.

Virgil Van Dijk was crowned UEFA Footballer of the Year, whilst also picking up the best defender award.  This is the centre-half that Manchester United should have signed.  Eric Cantona turned up at the ceremony looking like a tramp.  His speech started off okay before he started quoting lines from King Lear!  He always seemed a little bit odd during his playing days and this did little to alter my opinion.

Andy Murray continues to struggle in his comeback from injury.  He was beaten by the world number 240 in Mallorca and needed physio during the match.  The US Open looks a long way away.
