There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Kempton, Brighton and Yarmouth, whilst there is a jumps fixture at our local track, Newton Abbot.  David has one runner this evening as Legal History (pictured above) contests the 2m1f handicap hurdle at 6.35pm.  Our four year old has been a real money spinner since switching to hurdles but he has been creeping up the weights as a consequence and now has a mark of 133.  He was a good second in a Listed contest at Market Rasen last time and a reproduction of that effort would see him go close, although he would be ideally suited by a faster surface.

Hamilton must have had a lot more rain than we have over the last few days as they have had to abandon their seven race card.  Let's hope that it dries out for them as they are supposed to race again at the end of the month.

I see that it is former jockey Timmy Murphy's birthday today.  Timmy won the Grand National for David aboard Comply Or Die in 2008 and was a very good jockey.  Many happy returns Timmy...

Manchester United only drew with Wolves last night with Paul Pogba missing his fourth penalty in the last twelve months.  It should have been Marcus Rashford taking the penalty but Pogba pulled rank and took it.  Pogba is nowhere near as good as Pogba thinks he is.  I bet all the United players and fans hope he never takes another penalty again.

How tough were professional cricketers years ago?  They never wore helmets, thigh pads or the like.  I can still remember Brian Close just letting the ball from the West Indian fast bowlers hit him on the chest...he never wore a helmet either.

Snooker player Jimmy White finally broke his Crucible hoodoo by lifting a world title at the home of snooker.  He lost six world championship finals without ever winning one.  His success in the world seniors title came with a winners' cheque for £25,000.  We see Jimmy at a few of the tracks around London - he was always keen on his racing.
