There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with the action coming from Nottingham, Ffos Las, Carlisle and Lingfield.  Unsurprisingly there are no runners from Pond House today, although we will be declaring this morning ahead of tomorrow's cards from Newton Abbot and Worcester.  Talk about bookmakers betting on anything...I see there are odds available about which race will be dropped from the Cheltenham Festival after the announcement of the inclusion of a mares' chase.  The favourite to go is the Close Brothers novices' handicap chase at 5/4.  I must say, I am surprised that they don't add this race and another and hold a five day festival with six races on each day, not that I am advocating that...I still miss the days when the Festival was just three days.

There is an interesting two page article in today's Racing Post about Frankie Dettori.  It tells you all about his big race rides and winners, although it doesn't mention that he rode for Martin over hurdles at Chepstow.  His riding instructions were, "When you get near a hurdle, close your eyes!" Fortunately for Frankie, the horse he was riding was a very good jumper.  Mind you, when he came back in he said "Never again!".

Let's hope that all the forecast rain does not hit York.  Next week it is the Ebor Festival and there will be loads of top class action taking place.  The problem is that the ground is already good/soft in places so they are not going to want much more.

I was watching England fast bowler Jofra Archer bowling in the nets ahead of the second Ashes test match.  His injury looks fine at the moment and I think if I were the England captain I would be more concerned about him injuring himself on the gold chain around his neck...you could anchor a boat on it!

Andy Murray's first singles match didn't go as planned when he lost 6-4 6-4 to Richard Gasquet in the first ride of the Cincinnati Masters.  Murray kept getting angry with himself, but he is going to find it increasingly frustrating if he cannot return to the level he was at before.

Two parrots are sat on a perch...one says to the other, "Can you smell fish?!"  Have a great day...
