Ryan Runner-Up At Southwell

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Catterick, Lingfield, Yarmouth and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps fixture from Uttoxeter.  There are no runners from Pond House today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads to Uttoxeter where he has picked up an outside ride.  I thought that Hot Ryan ran a cracking race at Southwell last night to finish runner-up at odds of 12/1.  She was trying to concede 15lbs to the favourite Theatre Act and she should certainly be able to land a race of this nature if replicating this form.

Frankie Dettori makes his way to Ireland today for his first ever rides at Killarney.  He has four rides at the track but none of them are Group One contests so whether the crowd will get to see a flying dismount is debatable.  I bet Frankie's presence will put a lot more people on the crowd.

I can't wait for the start of the British Open golf from Royal Portrush tomorrow.  You must have your bets on by 6.35am tomorrow morning.  Rory McIlroy is the favourite but that will put added pressure on the Irishman.  I will be giving him a swerve and have backed J Rahm at 16/1, T Fleetwood at 30's and S Lowry at 70's.  It is a course where you have to hit the ball straight and keep it on the fairways otherwise you will be in deep trouble.  There is a sign at the course that reads "No drone zone" - I would have thought that you had more chance of being hit by a golf ball!

I see that England's cricketing hero Ben Stokes is being rested for next week's test match against Ireland at Lords.  He has been told to recharge his batteries for the Ashes which starts at Edgbastone on 1st August...hopefully he won't be out clubbing!  Anyway, there is not much difference between Ireland and Australia...that will upset my Aussie relatives!
