There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Beverley, Bath and Nottingham as well as a jumps fixture from Southwell.  David has one runner this afternoon as Hot Ryan contests the 3m mares' handicap hurdle at Southwell at 8.30pm.  Our six year old was favourite to win last time out but lost her action and Tom Scudamore wisely pulled her up.  She was fine after the race and has bits and pieces of form that would give her every chance here.

I see that two horses have already been named in honour of England's cricket world cup success.  They have called them Champagnesuperover and Super Over.  Let's hope they are as good or successful as our cricketers.

Man of the match Ben Stokes is the 7/4 favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.  The England team were at 10 Downing Street yesterday to meet the Prime Minister.  It looks like a small place from the front but Downing Street is much bigger inside.  I was quite surprised how vast it was when I went to visit Edward Heath many years ago.  All the PM wanted to do was show me his yachting trophies and tell me how good a sailor he was!  Happy days...

The Racing Post is worth buying today if only for the Lee Mottershead article on Lester Piggott.  Did you know that Lester won 20 races over hurdles at the start of his career?  Talking of great jockeys, I bet I know where Sir Anthony McCoy is going to be this week...the Open Golf from Portrush starts on Thursday.  Rory McIlroy is the 9/1 favourite with bookmakers just ahead of American Brook Koepka at 10's.

England's sports teams are flying at the moment and we could be in line for another world cup success as England's netball team beat hotshots Jamaica 56-48 in Liverpool.

Recently I have learned that the word 'cholesterol' is just a clever word for 'flavour'.  Have a great day...
