There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with the action all coming on the flat from Ayr, Ripon, Windsor and Wolverhampton.  The most prize money on offer is over in Ireland where the money at Killarney is twice as much as any of our flat fixtures.  It wasn't the best of days for the stable yesterday with Tom Scudamore unseating from Percy Street at the first fence at Stratford.

The flat jockeys' championship is developing into an exciting contest but I hope that Oisin Murphy prevails.  I have only met him the once but he seems like a very nice young man and has certainly been brought up correctly.  Talking of flat jockeys, I am going to have to get the Racing Post tomorrow as there will be a feature on one of my biggest hero's; Lester Piggott.  The advert for it reads "They say all it's all fair in love and war, Lester believed that, but he left the love out of it".  I saddled a few horses that Lester rode for Martin and never experienced any problems.  Furthermore he would always tell us anything we wanted to know about the horse he had ridden.  I was such a fan I even named my son after him!

What an amazing Sunday afternoon for all us sports nuts with two of the closest finishes ever to the Wimbledon mens' tennis final and also the cricket world cup.  Predictably it wasn't so close at Silverstone where Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton continue to dominate.  England emerged victorious over New Zealand in the cricket after tying after 50 overs and also the 'super over'.  England won as they had scored more boundaries during the 50 overs - it doesn't get much closer than that.  Ben Stokes hit a magnificent 84 not out and was deservedly man of the match.

Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 13-12 in the final set to win the longest final in Wimbledon history.  Federer couldn't convert two match points which is a great shame for him as it was amazing performance just to get that far.  It's just a shame that all of these amazing sporting events were scheduled for the same afternoon.

I see that Tiger Woods attracted a big crowd at Portrush in a practice round for this week's British Open golf.  I have a mate up there who tells me that Tiger looked like he was struggling a bit.  I guess we will have to wait and see.
