Percy Runs At Stratford

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon and they are both over the sticks with the action coming from Perth and Stratford...good race planning once again!  David has one runner today as Percy Street contests the 2m6½f handicap chase at Stratford at 4.10pm.  He is a talented horse on his day and was successful at Wincanton over hurdles earlier in the season from a 4lbs higher mark.  He is over the larger obstacles this afternoon and has top-weight of 11-12 to contend with, but he is capable of going well in a race of this nature.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

I had a quick look at the Perth card and noticed that Jamie Moore has travelled all the way up to the Scottish track for a few rides.  I wonder how the locals will cope with Jamie's cockney accent?!

What an afternoon of sport we have in store.  Of course, if it were the BHA organising it I would be giving their race planning department a real bashing.  Afterall, who on earth thought that it would be a good idea to host the cricket world cup final (for which England were favourites), the Wimbledon men's tennis final and the British Grand Prix all on the same afternoon?  What an absolute joke!

Anyway, England are 1/3 to win the cricket against New Zealand and if they play like they did against the Aussies, will win in a canter.  Let's just hope they don't get complacent as they can have their off days.  Should England win, the top players will earn around £200,000.  Whilst that is not an amount to be sniffed at, it equates to a couple of day's "work" for some of our fooballers!

How can Manchester United increase Paul Pogba's valuation to £180 million?  It looks as if they will get into a war with Pogba's agent.  The player clearly doesn't want to be there anymore so why don't they let him go?  He will only upset the rest of the team...Sir Alex would already have been well rid.

I see that Rory McIlroy has been installed as favourite to win the Open at Portrush.  He could stay at home in Belfast, although he says that he does not like to stay at home as his own bed doesn't make any difference to him so he will be staying in a hotel near the course.
