Entries & Recent Form

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with the action coming from Newmarket, York, Ascot, Chester and Chepstow on the flat, whilst there is a jumps fixture from Ffos Las.  David has one runner today as Airton (pictured above) contests the 2m4f handicap hurdle at Ffos Las at 7.45pm.  He did win at Taunton last season on good ground as well as finish placed at Stratford, although more recent efforts have been disappointing and he would need to improve on those showings.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle and he would have a chance if recapturing his earlier form.

I see that Hayley Turner has said that she would not have broken the whip rules if the penalties for doing so were tougher.  She says that a two or three month suspension would have been enough to deter her from using the whip with excessive frequency aboard her Royal Ascot winner Thanks Be.  Personally I am of the opinion that the horse should lose the race...would it have won without her breaking the rules?  The answer is probably not.

The Falmouth Stakes takes place at 3.35pm at Newmarket this afternoon and looks like a good Group One contest despite there only being six runners.  It looks like a wide open race with Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore represented by I Can Fly.  It is a rare occurrence for the Ballydoyle team to only have one runner in a Group One and I Can Fly's best form looks to be on soft ground and he certainly won't be getting that.  One Master could be the one to be on.

England were excellent yesterday as they destroyed Australia to secure a place in the cricket world cup final against New Zealand.  They completely outclassed the Aussies which was a joy to behold.  I have an uncle who is Australian and he loves to talk cricket so it is great to have something to boast about!  England are now 1/3 to win the final...I just hope they haven't peaked to early.  At those odds I will just be watching and cheering.

In the tennis, Serena Williams is 8/15 to win an eighth Wimbledon title and that will draw her level with Margaret Courts record of 24 Grand Slam victories.  Meanwhile, today is the men's semi-final between Nadal and Federer.  You can back Federer at 6/5 and that will do to give me an interest.

I only had four pints last night and this morning I have a terrible hangover.  That's the last time I'm drinking whisky!  Have a great day...
