There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with all of the action coming on the flat from Carlisle, Doncaster, Epsom, Newbury and Newmarket.  The card from Newmarket looks particularly good with a couple of Group races on the card.  Aidan O'Brien has runners in both of those and Ryan Moore is on board so they will certainly need close consideration.  Meanwhile, there are also a couple of amateur riders' contests taking place at Doncaster (1.45pm) and Newbury (5.40pm) and Serena Brotherton has mounts in both races.  She is a standing dish in this type of event and Itizzit looks to have strong claims in the Newbury race.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today.

Brighton specialist Roy Rocket had a run away from his favourite track yesterday.  He went to Lingfield and finished last of the eight runners.  As far as I am concerned he is only ever worth backing at his beloved Brighton.

I see that it is one of Martin's former owners birthdays.  Frank Farrant now lives in Spain and had some marvellous horses down the years including the likes of Valfinet, Heros Fatal and Tamarpour to name but a few.  We would love a few more like them!  Anyway, many happy returns Frank - we hope you have a fantastic day.

The big cricket match taking place today is the semi-final of the cricket world cup between England and Australia.  I saw India lost to New Zeland in what was a low scoring game for the other semi.  I think either Australia or England will beat New Zealand so today's match is more like the final.  England are 4/5 chances...let's hope they can do it.

The old boys both won at Wimbledon yesterday afternoon with Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer both successful.  They have not played each other since the 2008 final so their semi-final should be a classic.  Talking of tennis, my daily newspaper refers to mixed doubles couple Serena Williams and Andy Murray as the "Dream Team".  I wonder if they have realised that they lost yesterday?

Apparently the Andy Murray statue at Wimbledon will not be built until he has packed up tennis.  It will stand alongside Fred Perry who was also an excellent player...not a lot of people know that.

My local supermarket uses four checkouts...unless it's really busy and then they use one!  Have a great day...
