I thought that both of our runners at Uttoxeter last night performed creditably.  Ourmullion finished third having been in front at the last although he weakened on the run-in.  Naasir looked an unlucky when unseating his jockey at the last and should be making amends in the near future.  Mrs Miggins was second in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle, trying to concede 23lbs to the winner.  She was 12 lengths in front of the third so I don't suppose that the handicapper will be dropping her anytime soon.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with all the action on the flat from Yarmouth, Catterick, Lingfield, Kempton and Bath so unsurprisingly there are no runners from Pond House today.

I see that Frankie Dettori is planning a first ever visit to Killarney next Wednesday.  What a star attraction he will be for the Irish track.  I wonder if he will be collecting any appearance money?

Dan Skelton is in the paper today saying that he has no chance of getting near the 243 winner mark that Martin set back whilst he was training.  I may be biased but I think he may be right...243 is one of those records that is going to stand for a long time.

Can you believe it?  The Hollow Bottom pub in Temple Guiting has closed.  It is the pub where many of the top trainers have retreated to celebrate big race success.  They say that it will be 100% reopening so if you fancy a pub, this one could be for you.

It was the end of the road for British number one Jo Konta at Wimbledon yesterday.  She lead 4-1 in the first set but fell to pieces and was eventually beaten 7-6, 6-1.  She also let out the 'f bomb' along the way so I wouldn't be surprised if she was having to give back some of her £294,000 prize money.

Tiger Woods is preparing himself for the British Open golf by setting his alarm for 1am every morning at his Florida home.  This is to get his body clock in tune so that he will be ready to wake at 6am when he arrives in the UK.  That is the time he likes to get up and practice.  That is also what I call planning ahead.

Manchester had rain yesterday meaning that the cricket action between New Zealand and India was interrupted.  It will resume this morning.  We had one of the hottest days of the year in Brixham yesterday...perhaps they should think about building a cricket ground on the English Riviera?!
