There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card from Ayr and a jumps fixture from Market Rasen.  There are no runners from Pond House today and it looks as though stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have decided to take the afternoon off as well.  I see that racecourse officials are putting plenty of water onto the tracks to keep the ground safe.  The trouble with the weather is that it has been so hot and sunny that the ground dries out at a remarkable rate...I know this because Mrs Barnes has been complaining about the amount of water she has been putting on our garden.  No doubt I will be the one who's moaning when I get the water bill!

It will be interesting to see how dual Guineas runner-up gets on tomorrow when he contests the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville today.  The drop back to seven furlongs should suit and the race should be a penalty kick based on his two year old form.  The trouble is that he doesn't look to have progressed as much as some of his peers.

I see that Robert Havlin has decided not to appeal against his 13 day ban that was handed out to him at Windsor.  He has discussed the matter with solicitor and former Pond House conditional jockey Rory MacNeice and has decided not to fight the decision.  He will miss some big race rides as a consequence.

It is the women's football world cup tonight with USA taking on Holland.  The Americans are a short price at 4/9 but looked good against England in the semi's and should be too good for Holland.  The American press have been giving us a hard time since the semi-finals, I hate to think what they are going to be like if they lift the trophy.

There is a good picture of Tyson Fury coming out of a budget hotel in Maidstone, Kent.  With the money he has earned from boxing you would think that he would be able to afford somewhere fancy...I am sure he would get it at a knockout price!

With Wimbledon now upon us, I thought that I would buy some tennis balls from E-Bay.  Unfortunately the site kept crashing...I guess they must have had trouble with their server!  Keep smiling...
