Skinflint finished runner-up at Worcester last night in the 2m4f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle.  He was a long way in front of the third, 20 lengths in fact and looks as though a return to three miles and possibly fences would suit.  Regardless, he has shown more than enough to think that he will be winning sooner rather than later.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Haydock, Epsom, Yarmouth and Newbury, whilst there is a jumps card from Perth.  There are no runners from Pond House today and it looks as though Scu and Noonan are taking the day off.  There is a good mixed card from Tipperary, although it is a long way to go.  Sorry, couldn't resist that one!

Band Of Outlaws is an interesting runner at Tipperary this evening.  He is certainly a high quality horse to have on the go over hurdles at this time of year.  He looked very good when winning at the Cheltenham Festival before disappointing at Aintree's Grand National meeting.  He is a 6/4 chance according to the Racing Post and could be worth a little wager.

I see that it is former trainer Reg Akehurst's 90th birthday today.  I can't believe he is that age...where has the time gone?  Reg was a master at laying horses out for the big handicaps on the flat.  I played golf with Reg many years ago.

England did well to reach the semi-finals of the cricket world cup with victory over New Zealand yesterday afternoon at Durham.  It is the first time they have reached this stage for 27 years and are now 15/8 chances to lift the trophy.  A lot of these sides seem of a similar sort of standard so it will be a case of who performs best on the day.

Andy Murray says that playing mixed doubles with Serena Williams will be one of the highlights of his career.  Great player though Serena is, I would have thought that Murray had a few more highlights than that!

It is a hard life for some of these sportsmen...Ian Poulter has been driving around the South of France in his £2million Ferrari 288 GTO that is 35 years old and has only done 2,400 miles.  Poulter owns 12 Ferrari's and I bet they all drive a lot better than he is at the moment on the golf course!

Talking of golf...it takes a lot of balls to play the way I do!  Have a great day...
