There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Beverley, Brighton and Newbury as well as a jumps fixture from our local track Newton Abbot.  The best prize money is at Newton Abbot so they deserve a pat on the back for their efforts.  David has three runners at Newton Abbot this evening; Skinflint, Jacbequick and Delface.  Skinflint contests the 3m2f novices' handicap chase having shown good form in point-to-points for Gerry Supple.  He is ridden by regular pilot Bryan Carver who also claims a handy 7lbs off his back.  If he can convert his useful point form to rules then he would have every chance.  Jacbequick and Delface both contest the lady riders' handicap hurdle.  Jacbequick never runs a bad race and was a creditable second at Southwell on Sunday - he has a chance once again with Isabel Williams in the saddle, whilst Delface will be partnered by Tommy Eyston who rides out regularly at Pond House.  He has been in good form of late and should go well once again.

I see that it is Andrew Glassonbury's 33rd birthday today.  'Glazza' rode some nice winners for David, including the second leg of the Imperial Cup/Cheltenham Festival double aboard Gaspara.  Many happy returns Andrew.

I did not realise there was such a big problem with children gambling.  55,000 of them are supposed to have gambled - that is more than the amount that have taken drugs, drunk alcohol or smoked.  Almost every child seems to have a mobile phone, whilst I have seen them with scratch cards and playing fruit machines.  Surely that has to be a reflection on the parenting?

England take on Australia in the cricket world cup today and the home team have a good recent record against the Aussies, winning nine of their one day matches.  England are a best priced 3/4 so let's hope that it stays dry...we have certainly had some rain down in the west country.

Rafa Benitez has been sacked as the Newcastle manager and consequently the side have been shortened to 7/2 to be relegated.  It is a shame as he had done a great job for Newcastle - he was never going to get the money he needed to improve the side.  Can you believe that Jose Mourinho heads the betting at 6/1 as the man likely to take over?  You have to be joking!

I went to see a great new band in the local pub last night.  They are called 'Blank Cheques'...I am sure they will make it big one day but at the moment they are unsigned!  Have a great day...
