There was a good day for the stable yesterday afternoon as two of our three runners won, whilst the other finished a close third.  Mrs Miggins (pictured above) won the 2m4f mares' handicap hurdle in good style, easily accounting for the odds-on favourite under a good front-running ride from Tom Scudamore.  She jumped really well and hopefully she can build on this and improve further.  Max do Brazil made it two out of two over fences with success in the staying novices' handicap chase and he also put in a good round of jumping given his inexperience over the larger obstacles.  Hot Ryan was a close third in the novices' handicap hurdle, looking the likeliest winner at the second last.  This was still a good run and she looks capable of winning something similar before too long.

Max do Brazil makes it two out of two over fences with success at Uttoxeter

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Royal Ascot, Ripon, Chelmsford City and Lingfield, whilst there is a jumps card at Ffos Las.  David runs two at Ffos Las and also has a flat runner at Chelmsford.  Van Gogh du Granit reverts to hurdles for the 3m handicap at 8.10pm after just failing in a bobbing finish for the Perth Gold Cup last time out.  He is 3lbs ahead of the handicapper here and 8lbs below his current chase mark so if the change of codes doesn't inconvenience he looks to have a leading chance once again.  Regular rider David Noonan is in the saddle once again.  Picture Painter contests the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 9.10pm.  Our six year old has been in good form of late, finishing in the frame on his last three starts.  He is not the easiest to win with but he should be right there once again.

Meanwhile, over on the all-weather at Chelmsford City we run recent Windsor winner Ballard Down in the 2.55pm race, a one mile handicap.  He overcame a very slow start last time to get up on the line under Finley Marsh and is 4lbs higher this afternoon.  This is tougher again but he looks to have a good chance so long as he gets away on terms.

One of my form men tells me that the Andrew Balding trained Fox Chairman has been working very well at home and is fancied at Royal Ascot.  He is available to back at odds of around 9/2.

I see that it is Micky 'The Asparagus Kid' Fletcher's birthday today.  Micky was a very loud bookmaker and he also had a good horse in training with Martin many years ago called Kailash.

Just think, if you were any good at tennis and managed to get into the first round at Wimbledon you would get £45,000 just for losing!

Aussie cricketer David Warner has apologised to net bowler Jaykishan Plaha's mum after accidentally hitting her son on the head with a cricket ball in a net practice session.  Plaha suffered a fractured skull and spent three days in hospital as a consequence, but at least he received a signed shirt!  Indian opener Shikhar Dharwan is out of the world cup with a fracture left thumb...that doesn't sound as bad as a fractured skull to me.
