There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card from Goodwood and a jumps fixture from Perth.  David has one runner today as Van Gogh du Granit (pictured above) contests the Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup at 4.25pm.  It is a fiercely competitive handicap chase over three miles and our ten year old has been in excellent form since arriving at Pond House.  He bolted up at Market Rasen on his penultimate start and was a good second in a decent race at Aintree last time (he could well have finished even closer without a bad mistake on the final circuit).  Regular rider David Noonan is in the saddle and he should run his usual game race.

I see that there is a five furlong seller at Goodwood for two year old's today.  I know I keep going on about it, but I still can't understand why these tracks don't offer more middle distance sellers and claimers that would attract interest from the jumps trainers as well as the flat handlers.  Archie Watson seems to be farming these races and he has the most likely type on paper once again...I would imagine there will be a bid or two for this one.

Jump jockey Sam Twiston-Davies ventures off to Jersey today for three rides over there (two of them are on the flat).  It will be his first visit and I can recommend it - I went a few times when I was working for Pontins.  There was always a good atmosphere.

The Royal meeting from Ascot must be approaching as the advertisements for top hats are appearing in the Racing Post.  I always looked like a penguin when I donned a top hat and tails...I am too small and my hair is too long to pull off the look!

It looks as though Chelsea are set to get a lot of money for Eden Hazard. It is suggested that the figure could be as high as £130 million.  Is any player really worth that much?  Real Madrid seem to think so!  Meanwhile, England take on Switzerland today at 2pm for the third place play-off for the Nations Cup.  Does anyone give a monkeys?  I certainly don't!

Women's British Open golf champion Georgia Hall has made the Queen's birthday honours list and will receive an MBE along with England netball captain Ama Agbeze who has been bestowed the same honour.  I have to admit, I have heard of Hall but not the netball skipper...I must brush up on my netball knowledge!

People often ask me why I wanted to be a film editor.  I reply, "To cut a long story short..."
