There was a damp and dreary start to the day and it seems like Summer is well and truly over, although the jumps trainers will be happy...something about needing the rain for the ground!  There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Brighton, Goodwood, Haydock and Bath as well as jumps fixtures from Uttoxeter and Market Rasen.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads to Uttoxeter for a few outside rides.

Both of yesterday's runners at Ffos Las finished fourth.  Percy Street travelled particularly sweetly throughout his race and looked as though he was going to win before his effort flattened out in the closing stages.  He looks capable of winning from this sort of mark although he isn't the easiest to win with.

On the 75th anniversary of the D Day Normandy Landings Air Raid ran out a four length winner at Hamilton.  That is the sort of coincidence bet that Mrs Barnes likes.  It wasn't completely plain sailing at Hamilton though as two horses started from the wrong stalls.  Paddy Mathers and Nathan Evans were both handed ten day bans...surely they should know what stall the horses go in?

England were beaten 3-1 by Holland in the Nations Cup and I thought that England looked terrible.  Why is it that defenders think they can play clever football...they should just clear the ball.  We keep building this team up but they are nowhere near as good as the press are making out...back to the drawing board!

I saw a good cricket match yesterday with Australia digging themselves out of a whole to beat the West Indies.  They were 79-5 but managed to get to a total of 288.  It was a good win in the end.

New world boxing champion Andy Ruiz is demanding £40 million for a rematch with Anthony Joshua.  His share of the first fight was only(!) £3 million so he wants to up his purse.

I will be watching Jo Konta this morning as she competes in the semi-finals of the French Open.  It would be wonderful if she could reach a Grand Slam final.
