There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Hamilton, Haydock, Ripon and Chelmsford City as well as a jumps card from Ffos Las.  David has two runners at Ffos Las; Great Tempo and Percy Street.  Great Tempo contests the 3m handicap chase at 5.35pm.  He would need to improve on his most recent start but is dropping down the weights and is partnered by amateur jockey Mr Fergus Gillard who takes a handy 7lbs off his back.  Percy Street (pictured above) runs in the 7.45pm race, a 2m6f handicap hurdle - he won his penultimate start at Wincanton and is only 2lbs higher this afternoon.  He has a chance if putting his best foot forward under Tom Scudamore.

Story Of Friends ran creditably to finish second at Newton Abbot yesterday afternoon.  I think that he probably bumped into a very good horse and lost nothing in defeat.  He will certainly be better when faced with a stiffer test of stamina and will no doubt go on to better things.

The ITV Racing cameras are going to be at Beverley this Saturday.  It should make for interesting viewing as I don't think the cameras have been there too often.

I see that it is former Sun reporter Claude Duval's birthday today.  Claude used to write my table tennis column in the newspaper about 50 years ago!  Many happy returns Claude...

I see that tennis legend Billie Jean King has slammed players like Katie Boulter for withdrawing from Grand Slam matches and still getting paid.  She picked up £20,300 for not playing at the French Open recently.  It is not the fault of the players, it is the fault of the people who run the sport.  If it were you, would you give the money back?  I'm not sure I would.

Did you hear about the two silk worms that had a race?  It ended in a tie!  Keep smiling...
