Derby Day

It is Derby day and a busy day in the racing world with seven meetings, flat cards at Epsom, Musselburgh, Doncaster and Lingfield plus jumps cards at Hexham, Worcester and Stratford.  Tom Scu and David Noonan are both in action at Worcester.  The Derby is at 4.30pm and is worth £921,537 to the winner although obviously if you win the Derby your stud fees are also worth millions!  Let's hope Ryan Moore is on the most fancied of the Aidan O'Brien trained runners although looking at them I do not think there is a lot between them and even the great Lester Piggott could not split them.  What a great win for Anapurna in the Oaks yesterday and it was another flying dismount from Frankie.  I am quite amazed over the years how sound he has kept when he keeps jumping off the back of a horse - it is a long way down!

If you were following jockeys at Epsom then you would know that Andrei Atzeni rode three of the first four runners to victory.  He is a very good jockey and someone I like to follow.  I hope you all followed me and backed the West Indies to beat Pakistan in the cricket world cup.  Well the Indies slaughtered them, bowled them out for 105 and reached that target with onlly three wickets down.  Chris Gayle knocked off 50 in double quick time.

The big football match tonight is of course the Champions League final, and all British one in Madrid between Tottenham and Liverpool.  I am going to back Liverpool at 10/11.  They have had a great season and deserve to win a big trophy.  

Jo Konta has become the first British woman to reach the fourth round of the French Open since 1983.  Anne Hobbs and Jo Durie both reached the last sixteen but it was a long time ago!  In the boxing the big fight tonight is Joshua versus Ruiz Jnr.  Anthony Joshua is big odds on to beat the over weight Ruiz.  Both Paddy Power and Betfred are laying odds on what round Joshua will stop Ruiz.  You can back him at 5/6 to win in rounds one to six.  I am on!
