There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newton Abbot, Warwick and Cartmel as well as flat cards from Hamilton and Beverley.  We have had a couple of days without jump racing and now there are three cards on the same day, why could one of those meetings not take place yesterday?  David has one runner at Newton Abbot today as Picture Painter contests the 2m5½f handicap hurdle at 3.00pm.  He finished second at Chepstow on good ground before running a creditable fourth of 15th last time out at Worcester.  I thought that he had each-way claims at likely odds of around 8/1.  David Noonan is in the saddle.

I see there were five withdrawals at the start at Redcar yesterday.  I wonder how many times the trainers put their horses through the stalls at home?  When Martin was training he had a set of stalls in the yard that the horses would walk through on the way to the gallops.  Once they were down there, they would jump out of the stalls on the gallops...they certainly had plenty of practice.

I nearly forgot, it's Martin's birthday today and the old boy is 74 years old.  I keep telling him that I am never going to be as old as him (he is a year older than me)!  Many happy returns MCP...

There is a picture of orange racing presenter Matt Chapman with Jose Mourinho at the Formula One Grand Prix from Monaco last weekend.  I wonder who had the last word there?  Talking of football, the big game tonight is the Europa League final between Chelsea and Arsenal which is on BT Sport from 8pm.  I think I will have a little bit of the 6/5 about the Gunners lifting the trophy.

Apparently heavy weight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is considering an offer to make a biographical film abut his glittering career.  Good as Joshua is, how can you compare him to the likes of Cassius Clay...or am I just living in the past?  I saw Clay fight Joe Bugner in America.  The best part of the fight was watching Clay's training in the hotel...he was brilliant and extremely entertaining.  Maybe I am just getting old?  Still, not as old as Martin!

Thought for the day...lying about my age is easier now that I have trouble remembering how old I am!
