There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newmarket and Wolverhampton supported by a jumps fixture from Exeter.  David has two runners at Exeter; You Say What and Mount Nelly.  You Say What (pictured above) contests the 3m6½f handicap chase at 3.50pm and all three of his wins have come on this track, he was also runner-up over this trip from a higher mark.  The overnight rain will certainly have aided his prospects and he has each-way claims under Tom Scudamore.  Mount Nelly makes her debut for the stable in the 2m1f bumper at 5.35pm.  She finished third in a 2m point-to-point flat race, beaten in a three-way finish.  She is ridden by stable amateur Fergus Gillard who takes a handy 7lbs off her back.

You must always check that you take your belongings with you when you visit the racecourse.  Leicester racecourse were fined £3,500 after a fork was left on the landing side of the sixth fence during the maiden hunter chase - that has to be one of the most expensive forks ever.

I see that local trainer Stuart Kittow is upset that there are not enough six furlong handicaps.  He had the first and second at Windsor with only a head between them, mind you the more fancied of the pair was runner-up.  There was clearly a second winning opportunity gone begging.

Well done to "3 Fine Fillies & A Colt" who won the Racing Welfare quiz night that was held at the Beambridge Inn last night.  Racing Welfare, who are a charitable organisation that helps people at the grassroots of the sport kindly put on the evening as a sociable event for the lads and lasses who work in racing yards around the South West area.  Many thanks to them for their organisation and support - it is much appreciated.  The quiz was won by Gemma, Leanne (David's better half), Ali and Martin who fended off about a dozen teams.  Ironically, they fared worst in the racing round, although some of the questions did sound like proper stinkers!  Pictured below are Gemma and Leanne with Ben Robarts from the (losing!) Hobbs team.

There is a good match on BT Sport tonight at 8pm as Manchester United travel to Barcelona.  It doesn't look a very competitive contest with Barcelona 2/5 shots.

The papers should be renamed The Tiger Weekly.  All the news has been about Woods' amazing win in the Masters at the weekend and the bookmakers make him a 14/1 chance to overtake Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 Majors.  I don't think the bookies have been too generous there.

There is good news for tennis fans as Andy Murray played golf yesterday for the first time without any pain.  Yes, I did say golf...I guess the real acid test will come when he actually tries to play tennis!

I am amazed and appalled that Australia should pick Steve Smith and David Warner for this summer's cricket World Cup.  You will recall that they were both banned from the sport for a year for their part in the sandpaper incident.  They knew what they were doing - I would have banned them both for life.

I walked into my local boozer with a set of jump leads the other day.  The barman said, "I will serve you, but you had better not start anything!"  Have a nice day...
