There are three meetings taking place this afternoon, all of them over the sticks with the action coming from Chepstow, Ludlow and Sedgefield.  David has two runners at Chepstow today; New Age Dawning and Buster Edwards who both contest the 2m7½f novices' hurdle at 3.25pm.  Tom Scudamore is aboard New Age Dawning and he finished runner-up in an Irish point-to-point before landing a bumper on his debut for the stable.  He was a runner-up to a subsequent winner last time over half a mile shorter and this longer distance should suit.  He looks to have solid each way claims at odds of around 13/2.  Buster Edwards is our other runner in the race and he ran well when runner-up on his debut for the yard.  He will need to have improved for his first start in 548 days as he faces some promising rivals.  David Noonan is in the saddle.

I see that the money is still piling in on favourite Tiger Roll for the Grand National at Aintree which takes place two weeks on Saturday.  He is now as short as 7/2 for the big one and whilst he must go well once again, that is a very short price for a race like that.  Remember, although the handicapper would give him another 8lbs if he had the chance, he is 9lbs higher than when successful last year and he wouldn't have won that with another 9lbs on his back.

Trainer Jimmy Moffatt rode his Grand National entry Just A Par in a gallop around Haydock earlier in the week.  I wonder how many other trainers still ride their own horses?  I still recall the days when Martin would turn his flat cap around and try some of the horses for himself.

Talking of the Grand National, David hosted several members of the Press yesterday as they came down to get his thoughts on his possible Grand National team.  Ramses de Teillee and Vieux Lion Rouge (pictured parading below) are both intended runners, whilst a decision on Daklondike will be taken nearer the time as he needs the ground to come up soft.  Rathlin Rose remains among the entries, although he is almost certain to miss the cut - he holds an entry in the Topham.

It is Paul Leach's birthday today.  The former Pond House jockey is 68 - where does the time go?  It still seems like only yesterday that he was steering Baron Blakeney to victory in the 1981 Triumph Hurdle to give Martin his first Cheltenham Festival winner.  Many happy returns Paul...

If I was golfer Dustin Johnson I would replace the stairs in his home with an escalator.  He was in the best form of his life before falling down the stairs and hurting his back.  Now his brother (and caddie) Austin has also fallen down the stairs and done the same thing!  Perhaps a chair lift is the order of the day?

Ben Woodburn managed to save Ryan Giggs' blushes last night, scoring two minutes before the end to help Wales to a 1-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago.  Why on earth did he choose not to play a fit again Gareth Bale?  There was a sell-out crowd of 10,322 at the Wrexham Racecourse Ground for the first international match to be held in the north of the country for eleven years.
